The celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd began in the United States in 1970 and was the brainchild of Senator Gaylord Nelson, who had long pondered about finding a way to "put the environment into the political 'limelight' once and for all" . Earth Day is a perfect time to reflect about what you are doing to help protect the environment. There are many ways that you can celebrate alone and with others.

In recent years, climate change is a major challenge facing the world today, the middle school low carbon environmental protection initiative. Curbing climate warming is a common mission for all mankind. For you and for me and for him, but also for the survival of our earth family, but also for a better life tomorrow, as a middle school student, we should take positive action to curb global warming. To this end, I have issued to all students "low-carbon life, we act" initiative, called on all students to do so:
1, carry forward the traditional virtues of thrift and economy, stop waste and avoid waste of food;
2, use less disposable chopsticks, paper cups, plastic bags and other disposable items, usually bring bottle, drink bottled water, reduce waste discharge;
3, less use paper towels, use handkerchiefs. Repeated use of paper promotes double-sided use and reduces paper consumption;
4, save electricity, shut the lamp, computer, TV, air conditioning, immediately unplug the plug, do people stop walking, in natural light is better, to minimize the use of lighting, avoid the "long light".
5, cherish every drop of water, rational use of water resources. After running out of water, turn off the valve conveniently. If the faucet is dripping or damaged, report it to the school teacher.
6, love flowers and trees, not picking, do not trample on the flowers do not litter, every tree and bush, readily pick up trash, maintaining green environment;
7, protect and use good textbooks to achieve the "green cycle" of the textbook.
8, do "energy-saving emission reduction" propaganda, and vigorously to the family and around the publicity and popularization of low-carbon knowledge, so that more people to join the "low carbon life" team.
Students, energy-saving emission reduction, low-carbon life, we can do it. Maybe it will make our life less convenient, but it can lighten the burden on the earth we live on, and help us to form a healthy lifestyle and peace of mind. We raised all the money ourselves to come six thousand miles to tell you adults you must change your ways. Coming here today, I have no hidden agenda. I am fighting for my future.

All this is happening before our eyes and yet we act as if we have all the time we want and all the solutions. I’m only a child and I don’t have all the solutions, but I want you to realise, neither do you!

You don’t know how to fix the holes in our ozone layer. You don’t know how to bring salmon back up a dead stream. You don’t know how to bring back an animal now you can’t bring back forests that once grew where there is now desert. If you don’t know how to fix it, please stop breaking it!

Here, you may be delegates of your governments, business people, organisers, reporters or poiticians – but really you are mothers and fathers, brothers and sister, aunts and uncles – and all of you are somebody’s child.

Two days ago here in Brazil, we were shocked when we spent some time with some children living on the streets. And this is what one child told us: “I wish I was rich and if I were, I would give all the street children food, clothes, medicine, shelter and love and affection.”

I can’t stop thinking that these children are my age, that it makes a tremendous difference where you are born, that I could be one of those children living in the Favellas of Rio; I could be a child starving in Somalia; a victim of war in the Middle East or a beggar in India.
我永远不能忘记这些和我同龄的孩子，当你出生的时候，他和我们真的很不相同，我也许生活在贫民窟，也可能是终日饿着肚子的小孩，也可能是中东战争的牺牲品，或者印度的小乞丐。
I’m only a child yet I know if all the money spent on war was spent on ending poverty and finding environmental answers, what a wonderful place this earth would be!

At school, even in kindergarten, you teach us to behave in the world. You teach us: not to fight with others, to respect others, to clean up our mess, not to hurt other creatures, to share – not be greedy.
在学校，甚至在幼稚园，你们大人教我们如何处世，你们告诉我们不要打架，要尊重对方。找出答案，解决矛盾。去分享，而不是贪婪。
Then why do you go out and do the things you tell us not to do?

Do not forget why you’re attending these conferences, who you’re doing this for — we are your own children. You are deciding what kind of world we will grow up in. Parents should be able to comfort their children by saying “everyting’s going to be alright” , “we’re doing the best we can” and “it’s not the end of the world”.
不要忘记你们为何而来到这里开会，你们为谁做事情?我们是你们的下一代，你们正在决定我们将要在一个什么样的环境中成长，父母需要能够宽慰孩子们，告诉他们“一切都没问题，那不是世界末日，我们正在尽其所能的改变”。
But I don’t think you can say that to us anymore. Are we even on your list of priorities? My father always says “You are what you do, not what you say.”

How long haven’t you saw the star at night in the city? Would you miss the fresh and sweet air? Have noticed the river had seriously been polluted? Would you mind listening the crazy honking car horns instead of the birds’ ringing everyday? Could you be calm down if leave the air conditioning room in summer? Around us a little observation , air pollution, drought, flood, global warming, tsunami, earthquake and so on, was more closer to us. Caring for our earth, imminently! Not only for ourself, but for our further generations. As a teenagers, especially a college student, there are lots of things we can do to stop damaging our environment. Firstly, changing the way we think of our environment, facing the reality of our environment which have been seriously damage. Secondly, take some actions and from the side small start like play a tree, install low-flow shower heads and applicants, use public transport , less plastic bags and so on. The last but not the least, influence our neighbors by our behavior and let more and more people care for our motherland. Caring for our earth, all of us join together, with our heart and efforts, more blue days, cleaner water, peaceful.
